I first learnt programming as a hobby while working in my previous career. I started in 2017 with 'freecodecamp.org' specifically through exploring Javascript, creating a number of projects with HTML5 and publishing both the code and the projects at: https://codepen.io/jonthebluecow This also led to voluntary work helping manage the local Liberal Democrat party's website.
Alongside creating these projects I established an understanding of the theory and basic methods behind programming that led to enthusiasm to learn more through enrolling at Southampton Solent to study Computer Games Software Development (BSc).
While at University in my second year, I was level designer for a group project, fully building the environment, generating and refining the lighting, and populating the building interior. This project was completed in Unity.
During my final year, I led a team of 17 students in creating a game called 'Binger Ninja'. Our challenges were to integrate the team despite not being able to meet in person as well as creating all the artwork, audio, and programming for a game whereby our final asset size limit was under 100kb.
Through leading the team as producer, I managed the project meticulously through risk assessment and mitigation, Gantt chart creation and planning, Kanban board use, and through setting up the testing plan, managing the QA team, and making tough decisions on the games content in order to meet the asset file size requirement.
Even after the project assessment deadline, we continued to polish and work on this game as a team, with this ultimately leading to a full monetised release on the Itch and Steam store https://store.steampowered.com/app/1557300/Binger_Ninja/
During my final year second semester I worked on my final major project 'Cerulean Tower Defence', a mobile 2D tower defence game made with Unity. I have released this game on itch.io and plan a future release on the Google Play store https://jonthebluecow.itch.io/cerulean-tower-defence
Employment
I now work at Raytheon UK as a Senior Unity Developer, providing interactive 3D training and simulations to the Royal Navy. Due to the restricted content of the work, I am unable to share some of this work in my portfolio.
